A simple bacon apple pie recipe that can be made in a toaster oven without using a regular oven. The sweetness of the apples and the saltiness of the bacon harmonize perfectly, making it ideal for snacks or appetizers. It's easy to make and delicious with a crispy pie crust.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients (Bite-sized, 24 pieces)

  • 40g block bacon
  • 1 apple (250g)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 3 sheets puff pastry (using 11x18cm sheets)

Seasonings

  • Salt (to taste)
  • 20g sugar
  • 5g butter
  • 1 tbsp water

Steps

  1. Cut 40g block bacon into 5mm thick pieces.
  2. Cut 1 apple (250g) into quarters, remove the core, and peel.
  3. Dice the peeled apple into 5mm cubes.
  4. Place the diced apple in a frying pan, add 20g sugar, and let it soak in.
  5. Add 5g butter, heat the pan, and melt the butter.
  6. Once the butter has melted and the pan is warm, reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 5 minutes.
  7. To evaporate the moisture from the apples, increase the heat to medium-high. Cook while stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes. (Key Tip!) Stir to ensure even cooking and prevent burning.
  8. Once the moisture has evaporated, transfer to a separate plate and let it cool down.
  9. In the same frying pan, add the chopped bacon. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt for seasoning and cook until browned.
  10. Once browned, transfer to a separate plate and let it cool down.
  11. Separate the egg into yolk and white, and prepare 1 egg yolk.
  12. Mix the egg yolk with 1 tbsp water to create an egg wash.
  13. Let 3 sheets of puff pastry sit at room temperature for about 3-5 minutes before use so they are easier to handle.
  14. Place the puff pastry sheets on aluminum foil or the toaster oven's baking tray and prick with a fork.
  15. Cut each puff pastry sheet into 8 equal portions.
  16. Brush half of the cut pastry pieces with the egg wash.
  17. Mix the cooled bacon and apples together, then place on top of the egg-washed pastry pieces.
  18. Cover with the remaining pastry pieces.
  19. Press the edges of the pastry firmly with a fork to seal them together.
  20. Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients to wrap them in puff pastry.
  21. Once all pieces are wrapped, brush the surface with the egg wash.
  22. Place in the toaster oven and bake for about 15 minutes until golden brown. (Key Tip!) If the surface starts to burn during baking, cover it with aluminum foil.
  23. (If using a regular oven) Preheat oven to 200°C (392°F) and bake for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
  24. The pie is done when the pastry is puffed up, has a nice golden-brown color, and is cooked through.
