A recipe for easy hot apple bread using sliced bread, no pastry required. The crispy texture, combined with the sweet stewed apples and rich cream cheese, makes it perfect for breakfast or snacks. This is a dish that children will love.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients (2 pieces)
- Sliced Bread (thinly sliced) 2 slices
- Apple 1/2
- Cream Cheese 10g
Seasonings
- Sugar 1 tbsp
- Water 1/2 tbsp
- Butter 25g
- Cinnamon Powder (to taste)
Steps
- Wash the apple thoroughly with the peel on. Cut 1/2 apple into quarters and remove the hard core.
- Slice the apple into 5mm thick pieces.
- In a small frying pan, combine 1 tbsp sugar and 1/2 tbsp water. Heat until the sugar dissolves and it starts to bubble.
- Once the sugar has dissolved, immediately add the sliced apple and stir to coat evenly.
- Cover with a lid and cook over low heat. Once the apple releases moisture, shake the pan a few times and continue cooking until softened.
- Add 25g butter to finish and stir. Let it cool slightly.
- Trim the crusts off 2 slices of thinly sliced bread. The leftover crusts can be enjoyed as rusks.
- Flatten the sliced bread using a spatula or similar tool. Flattening firmly creates a crispy, pie-like texture and makes it easier to fill. You can also use a rolling pin.
- Place the stewed apple mixture and 10g cream cheese on one half of each slice of bread, then fold the bread in half and press to seal.
- Melt butter in a frying pan and lightly coat the entire surface of the bread with butter.
- While pressing down firmly, grill until golden brown on both sides. Pressing down while cooking helps the bread hold its shape and become crispier.
- Flip the bread over and grill similarly until golden brown, adding more butter if desired.
- Use the side of the frying pan to toast the edges of the bread until golden brown.
- Once cooked, transfer to a plate and serve.
