This is a recipe for an authentic Yoshinoya-style beef bowl you can easily make at home with just one frying pan. Even inexpensive beef will absorb the flavor well, allowing you to enjoy the taste of the restaurant with ease. Please give it a try.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients (1 serving)

  • 150g thinly sliced beef
  • 1/2 onion
  • Green onion to taste
  • Pickled ginger to taste

Seasonings

  • [A] 150cc water
  • [A] 1.5 tbsp soy sauce
  • [A] 1 tbsp sake
  • [A] 1 tbsp sugar
  • [A] 2 tsp mirin
  • [A] 1/2 tsp Dasida

Steps

  1. Thinly slice 1/2 onion.
  2. Add 150cc water, 1 tbsp sugar, 1/2 tsp Dasida, 1.5 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp sake, and 2 tsp mirin to a frying pan.
  3. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring well to ensure the sugar and Dasida dissolve completely.
  4. Once the liquid boils, add the thinly sliced onion and simmer for about 5 minutes.
  5. When the onion turns brownish, add 150g thinly sliced beef and cook while breaking it apart well.
  6. Skim off any scum that appears while the meat is cooking. [This is the secret!] Removing the scum will result in a more delicious beef bowl.
  7. Continue to simmer for about 10 more minutes after adding the beef, stirring occasionally.
  8. Turn off the heat when the liquid has reduced and thickened.
  9. Serve rice in a bowl and top with the prepared beef bowl.
  10. Garnish with green onion and pickled ginger to your liking and serve.
