A simple meat-wrapped daikon recipe using seasonal daikon radish and pork. It's a filling dish that can be made in a short time, perfect with rice or as a snack. The yakiniku sauce ensures a well-seasoned flavor.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients (2 servings)

  • Daikon radish 5cm (approx. 250g)
  • Pork loin slices 5 slices
  • All-purpose flour (for dusting) (to taste)

Seasonings

  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • Yakiniku sauce 2 tbsp

Steps

  1. Peel the daikon radish (5cm, 250g) and cut it into 1cm thick half-moon shapes.
  2. Place the cut daikon in a microwave-safe container, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave at 600W for 5 minutes. This pre-cooking step ensures it becomes tender and has a melt-in-your-mouth texture.
  3. Drain the microwaved daikon in a colander and let it cool.
  4. Cut the pork loin slices (5 slices) in half lengthwise. Cutting them in half creates a better ratio with the daikon and makes them easier to eat.
  5. Wrap the cooled daikon with the pork loin slices.
  6. Lightly sprinkle salt and pepper on the wrapped daikon. Dust evenly with all-purpose flour (to taste). Dusting with flour helps the pork stick together and absorb the sauce better.
  7. Heat a frying pan over medium heat.
  8. Place the wrapped daikon in the pan, seam-side down.
  9. Sear for 1.5 to 2 minutes until browned, then flip.
  10. Cook until browned all over and cooked through.
  11. Wipe any excess oil and debris from the frying pan with a paper towel.
  12. Add 2 tbsp of yakiniku sauce and stir over medium-high heat until the sauce thickens and coats everything.
  13. Once the sauce is well coated, turn off the heat and transfer to a plate.
