No cooking required! Just mix and sandwich. This hearty tuna onion sandwich uses plenty of seasonal new onions for a filling meal. The crispy sweetness of the onions, tuna, and yuzu pepper flavor are a perfect match. We also introduce a simple onion miso cream soup made in the microwave. Try this incredibly satisfying menu!

Ingredients

Main Ingredients (2 servings)

  • New Onion 1/2 (approx. 100g)
  • Canned Tuna 1 can
  • Bread (8-slice cut) 2 slices
  • Butter (to taste)
  • New Onion 1/4 (approx. 50g)
  • Chopped Fried Tofu Skin (small amount)
  • Milk 150ml

Seasonings

  • Mayonnaise 1 tbsp
  • Yuzu Pepper 1 tsp
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Coarsely Ground Black Pepper (to taste)
  • Miso Paste 1 tsp
  • Dashi Powder 2/3 tsp

Steps

  1. Peel and thinly slice New Onion (approx. 100g).
  2. Spread the thinly sliced new onion on paper towels and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Thoroughly pat dry the new onion with paper towels and place it in a bowl. (Key Tip!) Letting it air out and dry removes its pungency, making it delicious raw.
  4. Add drained canned tuna, mayonnaise (1 tbsp), yuzu pepper (1 tsp), salt (to taste), and coarsely ground black pepper (to taste) to the bowl and mix well.
  5. Spread butter (to taste) on one side of 2 slices of bread (8-slice cut).
  6. Lay out plastic wrap and place a slice of bread on it, butter-side up.
  7. Spread the mixed filling evenly over the bread. (Key Tip!) Since there's a lot of filling, pile it high.
  8. Place the other slice of bread on top, butter-side down, and wrap tightly with plastic wrap.
  9. Let the wrapped sandwich rest in the refrigerator for about 5 minutes.
  10. Thinly slice New Onion (approx. 50g) and place it in a mug.
  11. Add a small amount of chopped fried tofu skin.
  12. Cover with plastic wrap and microwave for 1.5 minutes at 600W.
  13. After microwaving, add milk (150ml) and microwave again for 1 minute 15 seconds to 1 minute 30 seconds at 600W.
  14. Once heated, add miso paste (1 tsp) and dashi powder (2/3 tsp), and stir to dissolve well.
  15. Cut the rested sandwich in half while still in the plastic wrap. (Key Tip!) Remove the plastic wrap before eating.
