Easy to make as you don't need to fold them! Simply fold and fry pumpkin, mixed ground meat, and cheese in gyoza wrappers. This recipe for pumpkin gyoza is delightfully crispy and irresistibly delicious. It uses minimal seasonings and can be easily made in a single frying pan.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients (2-3 servings)

  • Gyoza wrappers 15 sheets
  • Mixed ground meat 60g
  • Pumpkin (net weight) 150g
  • Mixed cheese 40g

Seasonings

  • Granulated consommé 1/2 tsp
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • Vegetable oil (generous amount)
  • Water (to taste)

Steps

  1. Place 60g of mixed ground meat in a heatproof container and microwave at 600W for 1 minute.
  2. Break up the microwaved ground meat.
  3. Scoop out the seeds and pith from the pumpkin with a spoon.
  4. Cut the pumpkin into 3cm cubes.
  5. Place the cut pumpkin in a heatproof container, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave at 600W for 2.5 minutes.
  6. Mash the microwaved pumpkin with a fork or masher. If there are hard pieces, microwave for additional 30-second intervals, checking each time.
  7. Add 1/2 tsp granulated consommé, salt (to taste), pepper (to taste), and the broken-up ground meat to the mashed pumpkin. Mix well.
  8. Add 40g of mixed cheese and mix until evenly combined.
  9. Wet the edges of the gyoza wrapper with water, and place the filling in the center.
  10. Fold the gyoza wrapper and press the edges to seal.
  11. (Here's the trick!) Once the top edge is sealed, pinch and press the sides together to efficiently create a neat shape.
  12. Add a generous amount of vegetable oil to a frying pan and heat over medium heat.
  13. Once the oil is hot, arrange the gyoza and cook while flipping them until browned all over.
  14. (Here's the trick!) Cooking with the edges of the gyoza wrapper submerged in oil will ensure even cooking and a crispy texture.
  15. Once browned, remove from the pan and drain the excess oil.
  16. Arrange on a plate.
