This stick water jelly requires only 3 ingredients and can be made using items from a 100 Yen store. It's a cool and refreshing Japanese summer sweet that's ready in the microwave by simply mixing. It's easy to make and incredibly delicious, so please give it a try!

Ingredients

Main Ingredients (4 sticks)

  • Smooth Red Bean Paste (Koshian) 250g
  • Agar-Agar Powder 3g

Seasonings

  • Water 300ml

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine Agar-Agar Powder 3g and Water 300ml and mix well.
  2. Loosely cover the bowl with plastic wrap, leaving a small opening at the edge.
  3. Microwave on 600W for 5 minutes.
  4. Remove from the microwave, take off the plastic wrap, and mix well. (Key Tip! Even if the agar-agar appears melted, it might not be completely dissolved, so it's important to mix thoroughly.)
  5. Cover with plastic wrap again and microwave on 600W for 1 minute. (Key Tip! This heating step ensures it boils properly.)
  6. Remove from the microwave, remove the plastic wrap, and mix well again.
  7. Gradually add Smooth Red Bean Paste (Koshian) 250g to the agar-agar liquid in about 4 portions, mixing as you go. (Key Tip! Adding all at once can make it difficult to mix, so add it little by little to incorporate. Be careful not to whisk it too much and create foam.)
  8. Thoroughly check for any remaining lumps.
  9. In a separate bowl, add tap water and place the bowl containing the water jelly mixture on top. Let it cool for about 2 minutes while stirring. (Key Tip! Placing it in ice water can cause the edges to solidify first, so use plain tap water without ice. Don't cool it too much, or it will set.)
  10. Transfer the water jelly mixture to a container with a pouring spout. (Key Tip! Pouring it into a container with a spout makes it easier to fill ice pop bags.)
  11. Pour about 100ml of the mixture into each 100 Yen store ice pop bag (for ice pops).
  12. Close the bag openings.
  13. Place them upright in a long container and refrigerate for about 2 hours to set. (Key Tip! If you can't eat them all, they can be frozen. Thaw naturally before eating.)
  14. Once set, open the top of the bag and gently push from the bottom to release.
  15. Cut into your desired size and arrange on a plate.
