From Koutakuten's side dish series 'Just Serve This,' we bring you 'Tomato Namul Salad' with a Korean-inspired flavor that pairs wonderfully with rice. It's incredibly easy to make, packed with culinary techniques, and the refreshing aroma of ginger and sesame oil will whet your appetite. Please give it a try!
Ingredients
Main Ingredients (2 servings)
- Tomatoes 2
- Small Korean Seaweed Pack 1
Seasonings
- [A] Soy Sauce 1 tbsp
- [A] Vinegar 1/2 to 1 tbsp
- [A] Sugar 1 tsp
- [A] Grated Ginger 1 clove
- [A] Sesame Oil 1 tbsp
- [A] White Sesame Seeds (ground) 1 tbsp
- [A] Coarse Black Pepper (to taste)
Steps
- Cut off the core of the 2 tomatoes.
- Cut the cored tomatoes in half, then into half-moons. This cut creates more surface area for the dressing to adhere and makes them easier to eat.
- In a bowl, combine 1 tbsp Soy Sauce, 1/2 to 1 tbsp Vinegar, 1 tsp Sugar, 1 clove Grated Ginger, and 1 tbsp Sesame Oil. Mix until the sugar dissolves to create the dressing. Adding plenty of grated ginger makes it refreshingly zesty.
- Toss the cut tomatoes with the dressing.
- Add 1 tbsp White Sesame Seeds (ground) and toss gently. The ground sesame seeds absorb moisture, so add them last.
- Add the torn Small Korean Seaweed Pack and toss briefly.
- Transfer to a serving dish.
- Sprinkle with Coarse Black Pepper (to taste) if desired. This salad is delicious served over warm rice, or as a topping for somen noodles or cold pasta. You can also try it like a cold soup poured over rice.
