Ingredients

Main Ingredients (2 servings)

  • Onion 1 (250g)
  • Hanpen (Fish Cake) 1 sheet (100g)
  • Egg 1
  • Potato Starch 2 tbsp

Seasonings

  • Salt 1/4 tsp
  • Black Pepper pinch

Steps

  1. Peel and finely chop 1 onion (250g).
  2. Place the chopped onion in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 1 minute at 600W.
  3. Let the heated onion cool to room temperature. **(Key Tip!)** If using a regular onion, heat for 2 minutes to remove any spiciness.
  4. Put 1 sheet of Hanpen (100g) into a cooking bag and mash it with your hands.
  5. Add 1 egg and 2 tbsp Potato Starch to the mashed Hanpen. Mix well inside the bag.
  6. Squeeze out excess moisture from the cooled onion and add it to the bag. Also add 1/4 tsp salt and a pinch of black pepper. Mix until smooth.
  7. Once the mixture is combined, heat about 1 cm of oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  8. Reduce the heat to medium and drop spoonfuls of the mixture into the hot oil to form nugget shapes.
  9. Once the bottoms are golden brown, flip them over and cook for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown all over.
  10. When the nuggets are golden brown, transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels or a wire rack to drain excess oil.
  11. Serve on a plate. Delicious with ketchup on the side, if desired.
