A budget-friendly and easy recipe that replaces potatoes in German potato with tofu. Use the microwave for quick draining, then stir-fry the fragrant tofu with bacon and onions in a seasoned sauce. This is a perfect Western-style dish that works as a side or an appetizer.

- 1 block (300g) Firm Tofu
- 1/2 Onion (120g)
- 2 slices Ham Bacon
Seasonings
- [A] 1 tbsp Cooking Sake (Rice Wine)
- [A] 1 tsp Granulated Consommé
- [A] 1 tsp Grated Garlic
- A pinch of Dried Parsley
- A pinch of Salt
- Coarse Black Pepper (to taste)
Steps
- Thinly slice 1/2 onion (120g).
- Cut 2 slices of ham bacon into 5mm wide strips.
- In a bowl, mix 1 tbsp Cooking Sake (Rice Wine), 1 tsp Granulated Consommé, and 1 tsp Grated Garlic to create the seasoning sauce.
- Wrap 1 block (300g) Firm Tofu in a double layer of paper towels, place on a heatproof dish, and microwave for 3 minutes to drain. [Key Tip!] Microwaving speeds up the draining process. You can also place a weight on it for about 30 minutes. Draining thoroughly helps achieve a nice sear and prevents the tofu from breaking apart.
- Cut the drained tofu into bite-sized pieces, about 12 portions.
- Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat, and arrange the cut tofu pieces.
- Pan-fry the tofu until the bottom is golden brown and seared.
- Once browned, flip the tofu and push it to one side of the pan.
- Add the sliced ham bacon and onion to the empty space in the pan. Stir-fry while searing the other side of the tofu. Adjust oil as needed.
- Stir-fry until the onions and bacon are softened and the tofu is browned on both sides.
- Mix the prepared seasoning sauce well and pour it into the pan. Stir everything together to coat evenly. [Key Tip!] Mixing the seasonings beforehand ensures the flavor is distributed uniformly.
- Season with a pinch of dried parsley and a pinch of salt.
- Stir everything together and transfer to a serving plate.
