An easy side dish recipe from Kentetsu Kou, featuring bell peppers as the star. Cutting against the grain creates a wonderfully tender and sweet steamed dish. Simply add all ingredients, then let it cook for 10 minutes unattended for a delicious result. This is a colorful dish perfect for busy days.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients (2 servings)
- Bell peppers 2 pcs
- Garlic 1 clove
Seasonings
- Water 3-4 tbsp
- Olive oil 2 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Coarse black pepper to taste
Steps
- Cut bell peppers in half, remove seeds and core. Slice thinly against the grain. If the skin is tough, cut from the back. Cutting against the grain is key to achieving a tender texture that enhances the sweetness.
- Lightly crush the garlic.
- In a frying pan, combine 2 sliced bell peppers, 1 crushed garlic clove, 3-4 tbsp water, 2 tbsp olive oil, salt to taste, and coarse black pepper to taste.
- Cover with a lid and steam over medium heat for about 10 minutes. Stir gently once during cooking. Extending the steaming time will further increase the sweetness and tenderness.
- Once the bell peppers are tender, transfer to a serving dish. Sprinkle with a little more coarse black pepper if desired.
