A taste of my grandmother's cooking! Even kids who disliked sweet potatoes loved this incredibly delicious, fluffy "Soy Butter Braised Sweet Potatoes." The savory-sweet flavor combined with the richness of butter makes this a nostalgic dish perfect with rice or as a snack. Please give it a try!

Ingredients

Main Ingredients (2 servings)

  • Sweet Potatoes 250g

Seasonings

  • [A] Soy Sauce 1 tbsp
  • [A] Sugar 1 tbsp
  • [A] Dashi Granules 1/2 tsp
  • Butter 10g
  • Water 200ml

Steps

  1. Slice the sweet potatoes (250g) into 1.5cm thick rounds and soak them in water to remove bitterness.
  2. Drain the soaked sweet potatoes and place them in a deep frying pan or pot.
  3. Add 200ml water, 1 tbsp Soy Sauce, 1 tbsp Sugar, and 1/2 tsp Dashi Granules to the frying pan. Bring to a boil.
  4. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium-low, cover with aluminum foil to create a lid, and cook for 10 minutes. (Key Tip!) After 5 minutes of cooking, flip the sweet potatoes once to ensure even flavor penetration.
  5. When a chopstick can easily pierce the sweet potatoes, add and melt 10g butter, mixing to coat evenly.
  6. Transfer to a serving dish.
