Mix and bake in just 15 minutes! This 'Cabbage & Potato Gratin' uses plenty of seasonal cabbage and potatoes. With the savory flavors of bacon and cheese melted in, it's an easy yet exquisite dish. It's similar to Okonomiyaki and can be enjoyed by everyone from adults to children. It's also budget-friendly, perfect as a snack or light meal.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients (2 servings)
- Potato 1 (150g)
- Cabbage 100g
- Half Bacon 2 slices
- Mixed Cheese 50g
- All-Purpose Flour 2 tbsp
- Egg 1
Seasonings
- Salt 1/3 tsp
- Coarse Black Pepper (to taste)
- Olive Oil (as needed)
Steps
- Peel and remove sprouts from Potato (150g).
- Shred the potato. (Key Tip!) Slicing a few pieces thinly and placing them cut-side down will stabilize the potato, making it easier to slice.
- Shred Cabbage (100g).
- Finely chop Half Bacon (2 slices) into 5mm strips.
- Place the chopped potato, cabbage, and half bacon into a bowl.
- Add Mixed Cheese (50g), All-Purpose Flour (2 tbsp), Salt (1/3 tsp), and Coarse Black Pepper (to taste) to the bowl. Mix well until the flour is evenly distributed.
- Add Egg (1) and mix thoroughly until incorporated. (Key Tip!) Mix well until the egg is fully incorporated to ensure it sets firmly when cooked.
- Heat Olive Oil (as needed) in a frying pan over medium heat. (Key Tip!) Vegetable oil can be used as a substitute for olive oil.
- Pour the mixed ingredients into the heated frying pan, spreading them into a circle about 20cm in diameter.
- Cook until the bottom is browned and the mixture can slide easily in the pan.
- Once browned, carefully transfer the cooked mixture to a plate.
- Drizzle the remaining oil from the pan over the surface of the mixture. (Key Tip!) If there's oil left in the pan, it can cause burns when flipping, so pour it over the surface of the mixture.
- Cover the frying pan with a plate, flip it over, and return the mixture to the pan. Reshape into a circle if it has become misshapen.
- Cover with a lid and steam-fry over low heat for 3 and a half minutes.
- If the browning is too light, increase the heat and cook until browned. (Key Tip!) It's cooked through in the center, so focus on browning at the end.
- Once browned, it's ready. Transfer to a serving plate.
- Cut into bite-sized pieces and serve with your favorite condiments if desired.
