This 'Whole Steamed Onion with Pork Slices' is a dynamic dish, featuring thinly sliced pork and a whole onion steamed to perfection with 'Kore! Uma!! Tsuyu' sauce. Microwaving the onion enhances its natural sweetness, creating a delightful contrast with the savory pork. Enjoy an authentic flavor with minimal effort!
Ingredients
Main Ingredients (2 servings)
- Onion 1 (250-300g)
- Pork Slices 180g
- Scallions to taste
- Shichimi Togarashi to taste
Seasonings
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- Sake 1.5 tbsp
- Kore! Uma!! Tsuyu 2 tbsp
- Lemon Juice 1.5 tsp
Steps
- Trim the stem and root ends from 1 onion.
- Wrap the onion in plastic wrap and microwave at 600W for 6 to 6.5 minutes. [Expert Tip!] Heating the onion whole enhances its sweetness and makes it wonderfully soft and tender.
- Carefully, as the microwaved onion will be hot, make a cross-shaped incision, cutting it into about 6 wedges with a knife. Be careful not to cut through the core.
- Heat a frying pan over medium heat, season 180g pork slices with salt and pepper to taste, and stir-fry.
- Arrange the stir-fried pork slices on top of the onion.
- Pour 1.5 tbsp sake into the frying pan and heat over high heat to cook off the alcohol.
- Add 2 tbsp Kore! Uma!! Tsuyu, and once it starts to simmer, reduce the heat.
- Ensure the pork slices are thoroughly cooked. [Expert Tip!] To prevent the pork slices from becoming tough, cook them just until done.
- Optionally, add 1.5 tsp lemon juice.
- Transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle with scallions to taste and Shichimi Togarashi to taste.
