Ingredients
Main Ingredients (Makes 12 pieces)
- Ground pork 200g
- Bean sprouts 100g
- Potato starch 1 tsp
- Shumai wrappers 12 sheets
Seasonings
- Soy sauce 1 tsp
- Oyster sauce 1 tsp
- Black pepper 4 dashes
- Sesame oil 2 tsp
- Water 80ml
Steps
- Add 200g ground pork, 1 tsp soy sauce, 1 tsp oyster sauce, 4 dashes black pepper, and 1 tsp potato starch to a frying pan.
- Firmly grasp and crush 100g bean sprouts, then add them to the frying pan. 【Chef's Tip!】 Crushing the bean sprouts provides a texture and umami similar to green onions, saving you the trouble of using a knife.
- Knead and mix well until everything is combined and the ground pork becomes sticky.
- Divide the kneaded meat mixture into 12 equal portions.
- Wrap each portion of meat mixture with 12 shumai wrappers. Place the wrapper on top of the meat mixture and twist it without making pleats to form the shape.
- Drizzle 2 tsp sesame oil over the shumai arranged in the frying pan, then heat over low to medium heat.
- Cook until the bottom of the shumai develops a fragrant, golden-brown crust. 【Chef's Tip!】 Do not flip them; ensure a good sear on the bottom for aroma and crispiness.
- Once seared, add 80ml water, immediately cover with a lid, and steam-fry over medium heat.
- Once the water has evaporated and the meat mixture is no longer pink, turn off the heat. They are done when thoroughly steamed.
