This easy French toast dog is made by rolling up sliced bread with sausage and sliced cheese, then baking. It's ready in just 10 minutes and perfect for breakfast or a snack. The bread soaks up the egg mixture, creating a crispy exterior and a delightful sweet and savory harmony of melted cheese and sausage inside.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients (4 servings)
- Bread 4 slices
- Egg 1
- Milk 4 tbsp
- Sausage 4
- Sliced Cheese 2 slices
Seasonings
- Butter 10g
- Ketchup (to taste)
- Honey (to taste)
Steps
- In a bowl, whisk together 1 egg and 4 tbsp milk to create the egg mixture.
- Trim the crusts off 4 slices of bread.
- Gently press the bread slices with a chopstick or similar tool to flatten them. (Key Tip! Press lightly to avoid tearing the bread as you flatten it.)
- Cut 2 slices of sliced cheese in half.
- On each flattened bread slice, place 1/3 of a halved slice of cheese near the edge closest to you. Place 1 sausage on top of the cheese and roll up the bread tightly from the edge.
- Dip the rolled bread into the egg mixture, ensuring it's evenly coated.
- Heat 10g of butter in a frying pan over medium heat until melted and warm.
- Place the egg-coated bread rolls into the frying pan, seam-side down, and cook over low to medium heat.
- Once the bottom is golden brown, flip the rolls and cook, turning occasionally, until golden brown all over.
- Remove the rolls from the pan and place them on a plate.
- Serve with ketchup and honey, if desired. (Key Tip! Use regular sliced cheese as processed cheese melts too much. It will become wonderfully gooey when heated.)
