A budget-friendly and easy recipe for grated daikon meat and tofu, featuring tofu and seasonal daikon radish. The thickened sauce and savory minced pork are perfect with rice, making it an ideal dish for the cold season.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients (2 servings)

  • Firm Tofu 1 block (300g)
  • Potato Starch 2 tbsp
  • Daikon Radish 150g
  • Minced Pork 80g
  • Chopped Green Onions (to taste)

Seasonings

  • [A] Water 100ml
  • [A] Soy Sauce 1 tbsp
  • [A] Mirin (Sweet Rice Wine) 1 tbsp
  • [A] Sugar 1 tsp
  • [A] Dashi Powder 1 tsp
  • [A] Potato Starch 1 tsp
  • [B] Salt (to taste)

Steps

  1. Place a weight on Firm Tofu 1 block (300g) and let it drain for about 30 minutes to remove excess water.
  2. Peel and grate Daikon Radish 150g.
  3. In a bowl, combine Water 100ml, Soy Sauce 1 tbsp, Mirin (Sweet Rice Wine) 1 tbsp, Sugar 1 tsp, Dashi Powder 1 tsp, and Potato Starch 1 tsp. Mix well and set aside.
  4. Pat the drained tofu dry with paper towels and cut into 12 equal pieces.
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  6. Once the pan is hot, add Minced Pork 80g and stir-fry. Lightly season with Salt (to taste).
  7. Once the minced pork is cooked through and has changed color, remove it from the pan. Combine the grated daikon with the sauce mixture (prepared in step_3) and mix well.
  8. Place Potato Starch 2 tbsp in a plastic bag, add the cut tofu (from step_4), seal the bag, and gently shake to coat the tofu evenly without breaking it. [Key Tip!] Thoroughly draining the tofu and using a bag allows for a clean coating without getting your hands dirty.
  9. Arrange the coated tofu in the frying pan and cook until golden brown on all sides, flipping occasionally. [Key Tip!] Utilizing the oil left from cooking the minced pork will infuse the tofu with delicious pork flavor.
  10. Once browned on all sides, wipe off any excess oil and debris from the frying pan with paper towels.
  11. Pour the mixed grated daikon, minced pork, and sauce mixture (from step_7) into the frying pan.
  12. Heat over medium to medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats everything.
  13. Once the mixture has thickened, turn off the heat.
  14. Serve on a plate and garnish with Chopped Green Onions (to taste). Enjoy!
