This is an easy bread pizza made by simply mixing and baking, using sliced bread instead of pizza dough. The savory flavor of tuna and onion blends into the bread crust, creating an exquisite fluffy and chewy texture. It's easy to make in just one pan, making it perfect for everyday meals, as well as for Christmas or entertaining guests.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients (2 servings)
- 2 slices of 8-slice bread (approx. 1cm thick)
- 1 Egg
- 100ml Milk
- 1/2 tsp Granulated Consomme
- 1/4 Onion (60g)
- 1 can Tuna (drained of liquid/oil)
- 30g Mixed Cheese
Seasonings
- Pinch of Salt
- Olive Oil (to taste)
- Mayonnaise (to taste)
- Coarse Black Pepper (optional)
Steps
- Cut 2 slices of 8-slice bread into 1cm cubes.
- In a bowl, combine 1 egg, 100ml milk, and 1/2 tsp granulated consomme. Whisk the egg to break it up and mix everything together.
- Once the egg mixture is combined, add the cubed bread and mix well until the bread has absorbed all the egg and milk. (Key Tip!) Finely chopped bread absorbs the egg and milk, making it sticky and forming a dough-like consistency.
- Peel and thinly slice 1/4 onion (60g).
- Heat olive oil (to taste) in a frying pan over medium heat.
- Add the thinly sliced onion to the heated pan and sauté until softened and cooked through.
- Once the onion is softened, add 1 can of tuna (drained of liquid/oil) and a pinch of salt and stir-fry together.
- Transfer the sautéed ingredients to a bowl.
- Wipe the frying pan clean, and add olive oil (to taste) again.
- Spread the egg-soaked bread into the frying pan in a flat circle, about 20cm in diameter. (Key Tip!) Gently press down with your hands and shape with a spatula to create a neat circle.
- Cook over medium heat until the bottom is browned and the dough moves freely in the pan.
- Carefully slide the browned dough onto a plate, cover the pan with the plate, flip it over, and return the dough to the pan.
- On the dough in the pan, drizzle mayonnaise (to taste) in a striped pattern.
- Spread the sautéed onion and tuna mixture evenly over the dough.
- Sprinkle 30g of mixed cheese over the top.
- Sprinkle with coarse black pepper (optional), if desired.
- Cover with a lid and cook over low heat for about 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
- It's good as is, but for an even more delicious result, you can grill or toast it under a broiler or in a toaster to brown the cheese.
