A taste of my grandmother's cooking! Even kids who disliked sweet potatoes loved this incredibly delicious, fluffy "Soy Butter Braised Sweet Potatoes." The savory-sweet flavor combined with the richness of butter makes this a nostalgic dish perfect with rice or as a snack. Please give it a try!
Ingredients
Main Ingredients (2 servings)
- Sweet Potatoes 250g
Seasonings
- [A] Soy Sauce 1 tbsp
- [A] Sugar 1 tbsp
- [A] Dashi Granules 1/2 tsp
- Butter 10g
- Water 200ml
Steps
- Slice the sweet potatoes (250g) into 1.5cm thick rounds and soak them in water to remove bitterness.
- Drain the soaked sweet potatoes and place them in a deep frying pan or pot.
- Add 200ml water, 1 tbsp Soy Sauce, 1 tbsp Sugar, and 1/2 tsp Dashi Granules to the frying pan. Bring to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce heat to medium-low, cover with aluminum foil to create a lid, and cook for 10 minutes. (Key Tip!) After 5 minutes of cooking, flip the sweet potatoes once to ensure even flavor penetration.
- When a chopstick can easily pierce the sweet potatoes, add and melt 10g butter, mixing to coat evenly.
- Transfer to a serving dish.
