Ingredients

Main Ingredients (2 servings)

  • Fava beans 100g
  • Rosemary a pinch

Seasonings

  • [A] White Sesame Oil 1+ tsp
  • [A] Sichuan Peppercorns 5-6
  • [A] Dried Chilies 3
  • [B] Cooking Sake (Rice Wine) 1+ tbsp
  • [B] Water 150ml (approx. 2/3 cup)
  • [B] Chicken Stock Powder 1 tsp
  • [B] Salt to taste
  • [B] Pepper to taste

Steps

  1. Peel the thin skin off the fava beans.
  2. Bring water to a boil in a pot, add a pinch of salt, 1 tsp oil, and a pinch of rosemary, then boil the 100g of fava beans for about 2 minutes.
  3. Drain the boiled fava beans in a colander.
  4. Heat 1+ tsp White Sesame Oil in a frying pan over low heat. Add 5-6 Sichuan peppercorns and 3 dried chilies and stir-fry until fragrant.
  5. Once fragrant, add 1+ tbsp Cooking Sake (Rice Wine), 150ml Water (approx. 2/3 cup), and 1 tsp Chicken Stock Powder, and bring to a boil.
  6. Taste the liquid and season with a pinch of salt and a pinch of pepper to taste, slightly stronger than a clear soup.
  7. Remove the rosemary, add the boiled fava beans, and simmer for 1-2 minutes.
  8. Roughly mash with a wooden spoon while stirring. Turn off the heat when the liquid has evaporated and the beans are fluffy.
  9. Serve on a plate to complete.
