An easy spring onion recipe made with just a microwave and toaster. This exquisite dish features sweet, flavorful spring onions coated in tender pork and melty cheese. Perfect as a snack or a side dish for rice.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients (1 serving (4 pieces))

  • Spring Onion 1
  • Thinly sliced pork 80g
  • Mixed cheese (to taste)

Seasonings

  • [A] Cooking Sake (Rice Wine) 1 tsp
  • [A] Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Coarse black pepper (to taste)
  • Dried parsley (to taste)
  • Ponzu sauce (optional)
  • All-purpose soy sauce (optional)

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine thinly sliced pork 80g with Cooking Sake (Rice Wine) 1 tsp and salt and pepper to taste. Mix well.
  2. Trim the tip and root of the spring onion 1 and peel off the skin.
  3. Cut the peeled spring onion into 4 equal wedges lengthwise.
  4. Arrange the cut spring onion wedges in a microwave-safe dish.
  5. Divide the marinated thinly sliced pork into 4 portions, lightly form them into patties, and place one on top of each spring onion wedge.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap and microwave at 600W for 2 minutes 30 seconds. [Key Tip!] Microwaving the spring onions first allows them to cook through while retaining a pleasant texture, and they absorb the flavorful juices from the pork, making them delicious. If using regular onions, increase the microwave cooking time by about 1 minute to mellow out their sharpness.
  7. Line a baking tray or the toaster's drip pan with aluminum foil and transfer the microwaved spring onion and pork to it.
  8. Sprinkle mixed cheese over the spring onion and pork.
  9. Grill in a fish grill or toaster until the cheese is golden brown and slightly melted.
  10. Once browned, transfer to a serving plate.
  11. Sprinkle with coarse black pepper and dried parsley.
  12. Drizzle with ponzu sauce or all-purpose soy sauce if desired. Enjoy!
