This is a recipe for an easy and delicious chunky pot-au-feu that's ready just by putting the ingredients in a pot and simmering. It's packed with vegetables and is perfect for warming up your body on cold days. Pre-heating the potatoes in the microwave prevents them from falling apart, leaving them fluffy. The combination of consommé and shiro dashi adds depth to the flavor.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients (2 servings)

  • Potatoes 2 (200g)
  • Onion 1/2 (120g)
  • Cabbage 1/4 (250g)
  • Carrot 1/2 (100g)
  • Sausages 6

Seasonings

  • Water 600ml
  • Granulated Consommé 1 tbsp
  • Shiro Dashi (White Soy Sauce Base) 2 tbsp

Steps

  1. Peel, remove sprouts, and cut 2 potatoes (200g) in half.
  2. Place potatoes in a heatproof container, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave at 600W for 2 minutes. [Key Tip!] Pre-heating in the microwave prevents them from falling apart.
  3. Peel 1/2 onion (120g) and cut into 4 wedges.
  4. Cut off the dirty parts of the core of 1/4 cabbage (250g) and cut in half lengthwise.
  5. Cut 1/2 carrot (100g) into 1cm thick rounds. [Key Tip!] You can also use it with the peel on for extra flavor.
  6. Make diagonal cuts on 6 sausages.
  7. Place the prepared potatoes, onion, cabbage, and carrot into the pot.
  8. Add 600ml water, 1 tbsp granulated consommé, and 2 tbsp shiro dashi to the pot, and bring to a boil over medium-high to high heat.
  9. Once boiling, cover with a lid and simmer over low heat for 20 minutes.
  10. Add the sausages after 15 minutes of simmering.
  11. After a total of 20 minutes of simmering, check if the carrots are tender. If they are still hard, simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  12. Serve in bowls to complete.
