A super easy side dish recipe that requires no knife and only takes 3 minutes in the microwave! Here's how to make Koun Kentetsu's special "Lettuce and Seaweed Namul" that you can eat a whole head of lettuce with. This dish, with its savory sesame oil and seaweed flavor, is ready in a flash and will whet your appetite.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients (2-3 servings)
- 1 head Lettuce
- 2 sheets Roasted Seaweed
Seasonings
- 1/2 clove Minced Garlic
- 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1/2 tbsp White Sesame Seeds
Steps
- Tap the core of the lettuce onto a cutting board to remove it. This is the trick! Tapping the core makes it easy to remove with one click.
- Roughly tear the lettuce leaves.
- Wash the torn lettuce leaves thoroughly and lightly pat them dry.
- Finely tear the tough parts near the core, and tear the rest roughly by hand. This is the trick! The core parts don't absorb flavor easily, so tear them finely.
- Place the torn lettuce (1 head) in a bowl, add minced garlic (1/2 clove) and sesame oil (1 tbsp), and mix gently. This is the trick! Coating with oil first prevents the lettuce from becoming watery when you add soy sauce or salt later, preventing it from getting soggy.
- Cover the bowl with lettuce with plastic wrap and microwave. This is the trick! The estimated microwave time is 3 minutes.
- Add soy sauce (1 tbsp) to the microwaved lettuce and mix quickly. This is the trick! Seasoning after microwaving helps maintain the lettuce's vibrant color and allows the flavor to penetrate better.
- Tear the roasted seaweed (2 sheets) and add it to the bowl, mixing gently. This is the trick! Adding seaweed enhances the aroma and adds texture.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with more soy sauce or sesame oil as desired.
- Plate the dish and sprinkle with white sesame seeds (1/2 tbsp). Finished.
