Ingredients
Main Ingredients (2 servings)
- Pork belly slices 150g
- Shiso leaves 10 sheets
- All-purpose flour 2 tsp
- All-purpose flour (for dusting) as needed
- Egg 1
Seasonings
- [A] Cooking Sake (Rice Wine) 2 tsp
- [A] Soy Sauce 1 tsp
- [A] Grated Garlic 1 tsp
- [A] Grated Ginger 1 tsp
- [A] Salt and Pepper to taste
- Vegetable Oil as needed
Steps
- In a bowl, add pork belly slices 150g. Add Cooking Sake (Rice Wine) 2 tsp, Soy Sauce 1 tsp, Grated Garlic 1 tsp, Grated Ginger 1 tsp, and Salt and Pepper to taste. Mix by kneading the ingredients into the pork.
- Add all-purpose flour 2 tsp to the pork and mix until evenly coated. This helps the pork pieces stick together.
- Remove the stems from shiso leaves 10 sheets.
- Lightly dust the surface of the shiso leaves with all-purpose flour (for dusting) as needed. This helps the pork and shiso leaves adhere better.
- Place the seasoned pork on the non-dust side of a shiso leaf, with the pork facing inward. Fold the shiso leaf in half over the pork. You can also add a bit of plum paste or mashed pickled plum for extra flavor.
- Heat vegetable oil as needed in a frying pan over medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot, dip the folded pork and shiso leaf parcels into the beaten egg 1, then place them in the frying pan.
- Once browned on one side, flip them over.
- Cook until both sides are golden brown and the pork is cooked through.
- Remove the cooked Pork and Shiso Leaf Golden Skewers from the pan.
- Cook the remaining half in the same way. If there's leftover beaten egg, you can dip the skewers a second time to use it all up.
