Ingredients

Main Ingredients (2 servings)

  • Cabbage 1/4 head (300g)
  • Garlic 1 clove
  • Pork Shoulder (thinly sliced) 80g

Seasonings

  • Olive Oil 2 tsp
  • Cooking Sake (Rice Wine) 4 tbsp
  • Salt 1/4 tsp
  • Coarsely Ground Black Pepper (to taste)

Steps

  1. Peel 1 clove of garlic and thinly slice into 2mm thick rounds.
  2. Cut 1/4 head of cabbage (300g) in half (into 1/8ths).
  3. Finely chop 80g of pork shoulder (thinly sliced) into approximately 5mm wide pieces.
  4. Heat 2 tsp of olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  5. Once fragrant, remove the sautéed garlic from the pan.
  6. Arrange the chopped cabbage in the same frying pan. Cover and steam-fry over medium heat for 3.5 minutes.
  7. Remove the lid and flip the cabbage. Ensure it has a nice sear.
  8. Reduce heat to low. Add the chopped pork shoulder and the reserved garlic to the empty spaces in the pan.
  9. Sprinkle 4 tbsp of cooking sake (rice wine) and 1/4 tsp of salt over everything. Cover and steam-fry over low heat for 7 minutes.
  10. Once the cabbage is tender and the pork is cooked through, transfer to a plate. Break up any clumps of pork. Drizzle the flavorful cooking liquid remaining in the pan over the top.
  11. Sprinkle with coarsely ground black pepper to taste and serve.
