This budget-friendly and time-saving recipe makes tofu incredibly delicious by pan-frying it with mayonnaise. It's a superb dish with a crispy exterior, moist interior, and a rich umami flavor that spreads throughout. Perfect as a snack or for dinner, it's an easy-to-make menu item.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients (2 servings)
- Firm Tofu 1 block (300g)
- Potato Starch 3 tbsp
- Chopped Green Onions (optional)
Seasonings
- Salt 1/4 tsp
- Coarsely Ground Black Pepper 1/4 tsp
- Mayonnaise 1 tbsp
Steps
- Place a weight on top of one block (300g) of firm tofu and drain for about 30 minutes.
- Pat dry the surface of the drained tofu with paper towels, then slice into 1-1.5cm thick pieces.
- In a bowl, mix together 3 tbsp of potato starch, 1/4 tsp of salt, and 1/4 tsp of coarsely ground black pepper.
- Evenly coat the surface of the sliced tofu with the powdered seasoning mixture.
- Heat a frying pan over medium heat, melt 1 tbsp of mayonnaise, and spread it evenly.
- Arrange the coated tofu slices in the frying pan.
- Fry until golden brown on both sides, being careful not to burn. (Key Tip!) Mayonnaise can burn easily, so pay attention to the heat. The mayonnaise will infuse into the tofu, creating a crispy exterior.
- Once golden brown on the surface, transfer to a plate.
- Sprinkle chopped green onions over the arranged tofu.
- The salt and pepper seasoning and the saltiness of the mayonnaise provide sufficient flavor, so eat as is. If you find the taste too bland, adjust with additional salt.
