Incredibly delicious just by slicing and grilling! A hearty golden gratin made by cutting spring cabbage into large rings and grilling it with eggs and cheese. Simple yet brings out the sweetness of the cabbage for a super satisfying dish. A fulfilling meal using budget-friendly ingredients.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients (2 servings)
- 1 whole Spring Cabbage
- 1 Egg
- 1 tbsp All-purpose Flour
- 1 tbsp Milk
- 1 tbsp Grated Cheese
Seasonings
- [A] 1 tbsp All-purpose Flour
- [A] 1 tbsp Milk
- [A] 1 Egg
- [A] A pinch of Grated Garlic
- [A] 1 tbsp Grated Cheese
- [B] 3 tbsp Cooking Sake (Rice Wine)
- [B] A pinch of Salt
- [C] Dried Parsley (to taste)
Steps
- In a bowl, dissolve 1 tbsp All-purpose Flour and 1 tbsp Milk.
- Add 1 Egg, a pinch of Grated Garlic, and 1 tbsp Grated Cheese to the dissolved mixture and mix well to make the egg batter.
- Cut the whole Spring Cabbage in half, then slice the center part into rings 2 to 3 cm thick.
- Trim off any dirty parts from the core of the sliced cabbage rings. (Key Tip! The core can be eaten deliciously, so don't cut too much.)
- Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
- Place the sliced cabbage rings into the heated pan with the cut side down.
- Reduce heat to low, add 3 tbsp Cooking Sake (Rice Wine) and a pinch of Salt, cover with a lid, and steam-grill for 10 minutes.
- After 5 minutes of steaming, flip the spring cabbage over.
- After steaming for 10 minutes, mix the prepared egg batter well and pour it into the gaps of the spring cabbage.
- Turn to medium heat and cook until the bottom is browned. (Key Tip! If it sticks easily, add more oil while cooking.)
- Once browned, flip and cook until the other side is also browned.
- Once both sides are browned, remove to a plate.
- Cut into desired portions and plate.
- Sprinkle with Dried Parsley to finish. It's ready!
