Ingredients

Main Ingredients (1 serving)

  • Bread (6-slice thickness) 1 slice
  • Egg 1
  • Sliced Bacon 1-2 slices
  • Melted Cheese (for melting) plenty

Seasonings

  • Honey (to taste)
  • Black Pepper (plenty)
  • Oil (a little)

Steps

  1. Cut slits into the four corners of the bread slice and hollow out the center. Save the hollowed-out part to use as a lid later. [This is the key!] Filling the center and covering with the lid makes it easier to cook and eat.
  2. Prepare the filling ingredients. Have ready 1 egg, 1-2 slices of bacon (1 slice if long), plenty of melted cheese, honey, and plenty of black pepper.
  3. Lightly oil a frying pan. Wipe the entire surface with a paper towel to create a thin layer of oil.
  4. Heat the frying pan over low heat. [This is the key!] Always use low heat to prevent the bread from burning.
  5. Place the square frame of the bread into the heated frying pan and crack 1 egg into the frame. Lightly crush the egg yolk with chopsticks or similar. [This is the key!] Crushing the yolk creates a flatter surface, making it easier to press later.
  6. Tear the sliced bacon into bite-sized pieces and spread them over the crushed egg. [This is the key!] Adding bacon prevents the egg and cheese from merging completely, creating a good balance. You can also use ham or tomatoes as variations.
  7. Sprinkle about half of the melted cheese over the bacon.
  8. Cover the filling with the hollowed-out bread center. Gently press to meld the ingredients.
  9. Cover the pan and steam for 1 minute to cook through. [This is the key!] Following the order of "egg, bacon, cheese, bread" prevents burning and mixing of flavors.
  10. Remove the lid and transfer the cooked toast to a plate for serving.
  11. If the frying pan has run out of oil, re-oil it thinly with the reserved paper towel. [This is the key!] Without oil, the bread will burn, so be sure to add oil. Butter can burn easily, so it's recommended to use oil for frying.
  12. Flip the bread over, return it to the frying pan, and cook for about 1 minute.
  13. On top of the browned toast, sprinkle the remaining half portion of cheese, covering the entire surface of the bread. Press gently to secure the cheese.
  14. Flip the toast over and cook until the cheese is firm. [This is the key!] The cheese needs to solidify to prevent sticking to the pan, so ensure it's fully cooked. This allows you to enjoy two textures of cheese: crispy and gooey.
  15. Place the finished toast on a plate.
  16. Drizzle plenty of honey all over the toast. [This is the key!] Honey creates the sweet and savory flavor, making it incredibly delicious, like eating a cheese naan.
  17. Finish by generously grinding black pepper over the top. [This is the key!] Black pepper adds a great accent.
