Ingredients

Main Ingredients (Braised Italian Sausage with Lettuce in Lemon Butter: 2 servings, Char Siu Potato Cutlets: 4 pieces)

  • Smoked Aged Italian Pork Sausage 1 pack (5 pcs)
  • Lettuce 1/2 head
  • Potato 1/2 (100g)
  • Premium Black Char Siu 8 slices
  • All-purpose flour, as needed
  • Beaten egg, as needed
  • Panko breadcrumbs, as needed
  • Frying oil, as needed
  • Lemon wedges 2 pcs (optional)

Seasonings

  • [A] Salt, to taste
  • [A] Olive oil 1 tbsp
  • [A] Lemon juice 1/2 tbsp
  • [A] Butter 10g
  • [A] Garlic 1 clove
  • [A] Water 2-3 tbsp
  • [B] Salt, to taste
  • [B] Milk 1 tbsp

Steps

  1. Mash Smoked Aged Italian Pork Sausage 1 pack (5 pcs) with a fork. This helps the umami flavors to release into the lettuce and steaming liquid.
  2. Tear Lettuce 1/2 head into bite-sized pieces by hand.
  3. Heat Olive oil 1 tbsp and Garlic 1 clove (minced) in a frying pan over medium-low heat until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  4. Add the mashed sausage to the pan and sauté.
  5. Add the lettuce, sprinkle with a pinch of salt, and add 2-3 tbsp water.
  6. Cover and steam. This method keeps the lettuce crisp and colorful, while infusing the sausage with flavor and a plump texture.
  7. Remove the lid, add 10g butter and 1/2 tbsp lemon juice, and stir until the butter is melted and everything is well combined.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt if necessary.
  9. Cut Potato 1/2 (100g) into 4 wedges.
  10. Place the cut potatoes in a microwave-safe dish, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave until tender.
  11. Mash the heated potatoes and season lightly with a pinch of salt. The char siu is already flavorful, so season the potatoes minimally.
  12. Gradually add 1 tbsp milk while mixing until you achieve a smooth mashed potato consistency.
  13. Place a small amount of mashed potato onto 8 slices of Premium Black Char Siu.
  14. Sandwich the potato with another slice of char siu, pressing the edges to shape.
  15. Coat the shaped char siu and potato with all-purpose flour, then dip in the beaten egg. If any potato filling falls off, the egg wash will help it stick.
  16. Coat thoroughly with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently on both sides to adhere.
  17. Heat frying oil in a pot to 170°C (340°F) and fry the shaped char siu potato cutlets. Since they are already cooked, fry until golden brown.
  18. Once golden brown on one side, flip and fry the other side until golden brown as well.
  19. Serve the fried cutlets on a plate, and garnish with lemon wedges if desired.
