Enjoy the crispy fried tofu topped with a generous portion of homemade tartar sauce made with cabbage and eggs. This hearty side dish is guilt-free and requires no stovetop cooking.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients (2 servings)
- Cabbage 150g
- Egg 1 pc
- Thick Fried Tofu 2 pcs
Seasonings
- Mayonnaise 3 tbsp
- Salt and Pepper (to taste)
- Ponzu Sauce 2 tsp
- Coarse Black Pepper (to taste)
- Dried Parsley (to taste)
Steps
- Finely shred 150g of cabbage into 5mm thick strips. Place in a microwave-safe container, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave on 600W for 2 minutes.
- Rinse the microwaved cabbage under cold water to cool it down and drain excess moisture by squeezing it with your hands.
- Finely chop the squeezed cabbage, leaving some texture.
- Make 2-3 small holes in the yolk of 1 egg, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave on 600W for 50 seconds to 1 minute. (Key Tip!) Microwave while keeping an eye on it to prevent it from bursting.
- Mash the microwaved egg with a spatula or spoon.
- Mix the mashed egg yolk with 3 tbsp of mayonnaise and a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Add the drained cabbage to the bowl with the egg and mayonnaise mixture and mix well.
- Place 2 pcs of thick fried tofu on aluminum foil or a toaster oven tray. Toast in a toaster or grill until both sides are lightly browned, for about 10 minutes.
- Cut the toasted thick fried tofu into bite-sized pieces and arrange them on a plate.
- Drizzle 2 tsp of Ponzu Sauce evenly over the thick fried tofu.
- Top the Ponzu-sauced thick fried tofu with the prepared cabbage tartar sauce.
- Sprinkle with coarse black pepper (to taste) and dried parsley (to taste) as desired.
