A budget-friendly & healthy thick fried tofu dish with cabbage tartar sauce, made easily in the microwave and toaster oven. Enjoy the crispy fried tofu topped with a generous portion of homemade tartar sauce made with cabbage and eggs. This hearty side dish is guilt-free and requires no stovetop cooking.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients (2 servings)

  • Cabbage 150g
  • Egg 1 pc
  • Thick Fried Tofu 2 pcs

Seasonings

  • Mayonnaise 3 tbsp
  • Salt and Pepper (to taste)
  • Ponzu Sauce 2 tsp
  • Coarse Black Pepper (to taste)
  • Dried Parsley (to taste)

Steps

  1. Finely shred 150g of cabbage into 5mm thick strips. Place in a microwave-safe container, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave on 600W for 2 minutes.
  2. Rinse the microwaved cabbage under cold water to cool it down and drain excess moisture by squeezing it with your hands.
  3. Finely chop the squeezed cabbage, leaving some texture.
  4. Make 2-3 small holes in the yolk of 1 egg, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave on 600W for 50 seconds to 1 minute. (Key Tip!) Microwave while keeping an eye on it to prevent it from bursting.
  5. Mash the microwaved egg with a spatula or spoon.
  6. Mix the mashed egg yolk with 3 tbsp of mayonnaise and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  7. Add the drained cabbage to the bowl with the egg and mayonnaise mixture and mix well.
  8. Place 2 pcs of thick fried tofu on aluminum foil or a toaster oven tray. Toast in a toaster or grill until both sides are lightly browned, for about 10 minutes.
  9. Cut the toasted thick fried tofu into bite-sized pieces and arrange them on a plate.
  10. Drizzle 2 tsp of Ponzu Sauce evenly over the thick fried tofu.
  11. Top the Ponzu-sauced thick fried tofu with the prepared cabbage tartar sauce.
  12. Sprinkle with coarse black pepper (to taste) and dried parsley (to taste) as desired.
