Ingredients

Main Ingredients (2 servings)

  • Thick-cut Bread 2 slices (approx. 4cm thick)
  • Milk 150ml
  • Egg 1
  • Unsalted Butter 10g

Seasonings

  • Sugar 1 tbsp

Steps

  1. Crack 1 egg into a bowl and lightly whisk.
  2. Add 1 tbsp sugar to the egg and mix quickly.
  3. Add 150ml milk and mix well to create the French toast batter.
  4. Trim the crusts off 2 slices of bread.
  5. Prick the surface of the bread all over with a fork or similar tool.
  6. Cut the bread slices in half.
  7. Make a cut into the center of each bread half.
  8. Pour the French toast batter into the cut and soak the entire bread slice.
  9. Gently press down on the bread to remove air and ensure it absorbs the batter thoroughly.
  10. Let the bread soak for 30 minutes to allow the batter to fully penetrate.
  11. Place 10g unsalted butter in a frying pan and heat over medium heat.
  12. Once the butter is half melted, remove the pan from heat.
  13. Place the soaked bread slices in the frying pan, cover with a lid.
  14. Cook on low heat for about 7 minutes, or until a golden brown color develops.
  15. Once browned, flip the bread slices over.
  16. Return the removed butter to the frying pan.
  17. Swirl the bread slices around to coat them evenly with the butter, and cover with a lid.
  18. Cook on low heat for about 3 minutes more, until browned. Serve when done.
