Easily made by just arranging and pan-frying, this 'Crispy Basil Tomato' is a delight. The crispy texture of gyoza wrappers, juicy tomatoes, and refreshing basil flavor combine perfectly. This exquisite recipe can be made in just 15 minutes, perfect for snacks or light meals.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients (2 servings)

  • Tomato 1 (200g)
  • Basil Leaves 4
  • Gyoza Wrappers 15-20 sheets
  • Mixed Cheese 40g

Seasonings

  • Olive Oil (to taste)
  • Mayonnaise (to taste)
  • Salt (a pinch)
  • Coarsely Ground Black Pepper (optional)

Steps

  1. Trim the stems from 4 basil leaves.
  2. Roll the basil leaves lengthwise and thinly slice them.
  3. Lightly grease a frying pan with olive oil (to taste).
  4. Arrange 15-20 gyoza wrappers, overlapping the edges, in a circular pattern with a diameter of about 22cm.
  5. Spread mayonnaise (to taste) evenly over the arranged gyoza wrappers.
  6. Scatter the thinly sliced basil leaves.
  7. Cut 1 tomato (200g) in half vertically and remove the core.
  8. Slice the tomato thinly, about 3mm thick.
  9. Set aside the end pieces of the sliced tomato for fine dicing.
  10. Arrange the thinly sliced tomatoes on top of the gyoza wrappers.
  11. Finely dice the reserved end pieces of tomato and place them in the center.
  12. Sprinkle with salt (a pinch) and scatter 40g of mixed cheese.
  13. Drizzle with mayonnaise (to taste) and, if desired, sprinkle with coarsely ground black pepper.
  14. Cover and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes. (Key Tip!) Proceed to the next step when the base moves smoothly and has a browned bottom.
  15. Transfer the cooked base to aluminum foil.
  16. Grill in a fish grill or toaster until the surface is browned. (Key Tip!) If the edges of the gyoza wrappers start to burn, cover with aluminum foil.
  17. Cut into desired serving sizes, sprinkle with dried parsley if desired, and serve. Enjoy!
