Ingredients

Main Ingredients (1-2 servings)

  • 1 can tuna
  • 2 slices of 6-slice bread
  • 40g pizza cheese or cheddar cheese
  • 10g butter

Seasonings

  • [A] 25g mayonnaise
  • [A] 5g ketchup
  • [A] 3 cloves grated garlic
  • [A] black pepper to taste
  • [A] 5 shakes MSG(Ajinomoto) (MSG)
  • [A] 1/4 tsp salt
  • [A] 4cm Japanese mustard
  • [A] 1/4 tsp sugar

Steps

  1. Thoroughly drain the oil from 1 can tuna. [Expert Tip!] The oil from tuna is rich in umami, so it can be used for soups, aglio e olio, etc.
  2. In a bowl, add 1 can drained tuna, 25g mayonnaise, 5g ketchup, 3 cloves grated garlic, black pepper to taste, 5 shakes MSG(Ajinomoto) (MSG), 1/4 tsp salt, 4cm Japanese mustard, and 1/4 tsp sugar, then mix well.
  3. On one of the 2 slices of 6-slice bread, spread all of the prepared tuna filling.
  4. Top the tuna filling with 40g pizza cheese or cheddar cheese, and sandwich with the other slice of bread.
  5. Heat a frying pan over medium heat, and melt 5g butter.
  6. Place the sandwich on the melted butter, and cook while lightly pressing down. [Expert Tip!] Pressing down while cooking will result in a crispy and fragrant finish.
  7. Flip the sandwich, and add the remaining 5g butter to the pan.
  8. Press down again and cook until both sides are golden brown. [Expert Tip!] The sandwich is ready when the cheese has melted and the whole thing is nicely browned.
  9. Cut the finished tuna melt sandwich in half.
