A budget-friendly appetizer recipe that requires no knife and is easy to make, using diced pork and yams. Simply mash the yams, mix with diced pork, and pan-fry for a delightful combination of chewy, crispy yam and juicy pork. This dish is perfect as a snack with a cold drink.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients (2 servings)

  • Yam 150g
  • Diced Pork 200g
  • Potato Starch 3 tbsp

Seasonings

  • [A] Cooking Sake (Rice Wine) 1 tbsp
  • [A] Mayonnaise 1 tbsp
  • [A] Chicken Bouillon Powder 1 tsp
  • [A] Salt to taste
  • [A] Coarsely Ground Black Pepper about 5 shakes

Steps

  1. Use Yam 150g with the skin on. Peel if desired.
  2. Remove the root hairs from the yam by hand or by quickly searing them with a flame.
  3. Rinse the yam and place it in a cooking bag.
  4. Finely chop the yam using a rolling pin or similar tool.
  5. Tear Diced Pork 200g into smaller pieces by hand and add to the bag with the mashed yam.
  6. Add Cooking Sake (Rice Wine) 1 tbsp, Mayonnaise 1 tbsp, Chicken Bouillon Powder 1 tsp, Salt to taste, and Coarsely Ground Black Pepper about 5 shakes to the bag. (This is the key!) Generous amounts of black pepper will enhance the flavor and make it more delicious.
  7. Add Potato Starch 3 tbsp, close the bag, and knead until the mixture is uniform.
  8. Heat Vegetable Oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  9. Once the pan is hot, scoop the mixture with a spoon and place it in the pan, forming flat circles.
  10. Cook over medium heat until browned.
  11. Flip the patties once browned on one side.
  12. Cover with a lid and steam-fry for 2 minutes over medium heat.
  13. Once golden brown and cooked through, transfer to a plate to serve. Enjoy!
