Ingredients

Main Ingredients (2-3 servings)

  • Cabbage 1/6 head (150g)
  • Onion 1/2 head (100g)
  • Egg 1
  • Breadcrumbs 3 tbsp
  • Ground Beef & Pork 200g
  • Sliced Cheese 3 slices
  • Breadcrumbs 5 tbsp

Seasonings

  • Salt and Pepper 1/3 tsp
  • Nutmeg a pinch
  • Vegetable Oil 2 tsp

Steps

  1. Core and finely chop 1/6 head of cabbage (150g). Finely chop the core as well.
  2. Peel and finely chop 1/2 head of onion (100g).
  3. Place the chopped cabbage and onion in a heatproof container, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave at 600W for 2 minutes. Let cool slightly.
  4. In a bowl, combine 1 egg, 3 tbsp breadcrumbs, 200g ground beef and pork, 1/3 tsp salt and pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg. Mix well until sticky.
  5. Squeeze out excess water from the cooled cabbage and onion with your hands, add them to the meat mixture, and combine thoroughly.
  6. Preheat oven to 200°C (390°F). Prepare a 20cm x 13cm enamel baking dish, gratin dish, or oven-safe baking dish lined with parchment paper.
  7. Spread half of the mixed ingredients into the dish.
  8. Place 3 slices of sliced cheese over the spread meat mixture.
  9. Spread the remaining meat mixture over the cheese.
  10. Tear an additional slice of sliced cheese and scatter it over the top of the meat mixture in the dish.
  11. Sprinkle 5 tbsp of breadcrumbs evenly over the top.
  12. Drizzle 2 tsp of vegetable oil over the breadcrumbs.
  13. Place the dish on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven at 200°C (390°F) for 25 minutes.
  14. Once baked, sprinkle with dried parsley if desired.
  15. The seasoning is just salt and pepper, so feel free to add ketchup or other condiments to taste. [The Key!] Baking with a small amount of oil and breadcrumbs instead of frying creates a healthy yet crispy texture. Adding cheese in the center provides a gooey, melted texture.
