Introducing 'Crispy Edamame Cheese Bites' - a no-fuss recipe where you simply fold and fry! These bites, made with gyoza wrappers, offer a delightful crunch with a melty filling of edamame, cheese, and mayonnaise. The perfect easy appetizer that's incredibly addictive and pairs wonderfully with a cold beer.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients (2 servings)

  • Gyoza wrappers (approx. 15 sheets)
  • Frozen edamame, shelled (approx. 80g)
  • Mixed cheese (30g)

Seasonings

  • Mayonnaise (2 tbsp)
  • Coarsely ground black pepper (to taste)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying, as needed)

Steps

  1. Thaw the frozen edamame and remove the beans from the pods. (Key Tip!) If using fresh edamame, boil them with salt first.
  2. In a bowl, combine the thawed edamame beans, mixed cheese (30g), mayonnaise (2 tbsp), and coarsely ground black pepper (to taste). (Key Tip!) Using plenty of black pepper will enhance the flavor and make it even more delicious.
  3. Mix everything evenly.
  4. Lightly moisten the edges of the gyoza wrappers with water.
  5. Place the mixed filling in the center of a gyoza wrapper, fold it in half, and press the edges to seal.
  6. Heat about 5mm to 1cm of vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  7. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the folded gyoza wrappers in the pan.
  8. Flip them occasionally and fry until the gyoza wrappers are golden brown all over. (Key Tip!) Frying in plenty of oil will result in extra crispy and delicious gyoza wrappers.
  9. Once browned, transfer to a wire rack or paper towels to drain the excess oil.
  10. Repeat the frying process with the remaining gyoza wrappers.
