A mouthwatering, cheesy Croque Monsieur recipe that's easy to make with just your microwave and toaster. Enjoy this perfect bread arrangement for breakfast or lunch at home!

Ingredients

Main Ingredients (2 servings)

  • Bread Slices 4
  • Ham Slices 4
  • Milk 200ml
  • All-Purpose Flour 20g
  • Salted Butter 20g
  • Melting Cheese 20g

Seasonings

  • Granulated Consommé 1/2 tsp
  • Black Pepper (to taste)

Steps

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, add 20g of salted butter. Microwave on 600W for 20 seconds until melted, then mix well.
  2. Sift 20g of all-purpose flour into the melted butter and whisk until no lumps remain.
  3. Gradually add 200ml of milk, whisking quickly to achieve a smooth consistency each time. Once the milk mixture is thin, add the rest and mix well.
  4. Add 1/2 tsp of granulated consommé and mix well.
  5. Loosely cover with plastic wrap and microwave on 600W for 1 minute 30 seconds. After heating, remove and mix well.
  6. Loosely cover again with plastic wrap and microwave on 600W for 1 minute. After heating, remove and mix well.
  7. Loosely cover once more with plastic wrap and microwave on 600W for 1 minute. After heating, remove and mix well.
  8. Loosely cover again with plastic wrap and microwave on 600W for 1 minute.
  9. Add 20g of melting cheese to the hot sauce and mix until melted.
  10. Cover the surface of the sauce with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the sauce to prevent a skin from forming, and let it cool to room temperature.
  11. Cut 4 ham slices in half.
  12. On 2 of the 4 bread slices, place 2 half-cut ham slices each.
  13. Place melting cheese on top of the ham.
  14. Spoon the white sauce (cooled to room temperature) over the cheese.
  15. Place the remaining 2 bread slices on top to form sandwiches.
  16. Place the sandwiches on a baking sheet.
  17. Spread white sauce on top of the bread slices.
  18. Lightly sprinkle with black pepper.
  19. Top with melting cheese.
  20. Prepare the second sandwich in the same way.
  21. Toast in a toaster until golden brown.
