Introducing a mashed potato recipe perfect for the busy end-of-year season, part of our "Perfect Side Dish" series. These incredibly fluffy and melt-in-your-mouth mashed potatoes are easy to make, even when you're short on time, and pair perfectly with any dish like roast beef or hamburgers.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients (2 servings)
- Potatoes 2 large
- Milk 100-150ml
- Butter 20g
- Grated Cheese 2 tbsp
Seasonings
- Salt (to taste)
- Sugar 1 tsp
Steps
- Wash 2 large potatoes and leave them slightly damp.
- Cook the potatoes while still damp. (Key Tip!) Cooking them with the skin on ensures they cook quickly and results in a fluffy texture.
- Lightly crush the cooked potatoes and peel them. Be careful of burns and work once they've cooled down to a manageable temperature.
- Place the peeled potatoes into a resealable plastic bag.
- Remove all the air from the bag and mash the potatoes with a rolling pin until smooth. (Key Tip!) You can achieve incredibly smooth mashed potatoes without a masher, just using a plastic bag and a rolling pin.
- Transfer the mashed potatoes to a pot.
- Add 100-150ml of milk to the potatoes in the pot and heat over medium heat.
- Heat while stirring with a spatula until fluffy and smooth. (Key Tip!) Stirring vigorously to incorporate air will create a melt-in-your-mouth texture.
- Add more milk if desired and stir until you reach your preferred consistency. (Key Tip!) More milk will result in a smoother texture; for a richer taste, use heavy cream instead.
- Once fluffy, add 2 tbsp of grated cheese, 20g of butter, a pinch of salt, and 1 tsp of sugar, then mix well.
- Once everything is combined, transfer to a serving dish.
